There
are a variety of different kinds of cloth diaper systems
that you can use. Some of them use cloth diaper covers and
some of them don't. You can find information on Cloth
Diaper Covers as there are several different
kinds of them as well.
People will often
choose a certain kind of cloth diaper system because they
want to save money or because they like or are partial to
a particular aspect of that kind of cloth diapers.
Types
of Cloth Diapers That Don't Use Covers
There are cloth diapers
that do not use the usual covers that are associated with cloth
diapers.
One
Size Diapers
- There are now some diapers that are said to work through
birth to toddler, a diaper that fits all stages of cloth diapering.
Since you are buying a diaper only once, you could save a
lot of money.
All-In-Ones
- An all-in-one
is a diaper that has the cloth diaper sewed into the waterproof
cover. They sometimes need longer to dry than a regular cloth
diaper and separate cover. They cost about 30% more as well.
However some people find them very convenient.
Pocket
Diapers with Inserts
- Pocket diaper refers to a diaper cover that has a pocket
for either a cloth diaper or terry cloth insert. They are
waterproof so clothes do not get wet, however you can only
use them once before you have to wash them.
Swim
Diapers -
With netting similar to swimming shorts for a child, swim
diapers allow you to take your child in a swimming area and
not worry if they dirty their diaper.
Types
of Cloth Diapers That Use Covers
The
more traditional kind of cloth diaper uses a cover but they
are no longer the same as the older generations used.
Fitted
Cloth Diapers and Covers
- A fitted diaper is a cloth diaper that usually closes with
snaps or velcro. Then a cover is put on top of it. You have
the choice of different covers but will not have to worry about
using pins.
Contour
Diapers with Covers
- Contour diapers are cloth diapers that are shaped to a standard
cover so you don't have to fold them. You could use pull up
covers, however then you would have to use pins or something
to keep the cloth in place.
Hemp
Prefolds and Covers
- There is a difference in hemp prefolds and cotton cloth diapers.
Hemp is used mainly in cordage, twines and in cloth as well.
It is excellent for diaper cloth because it is mildew resistant.
If you decide to use the pull up covers you will have to use
pins or something to keep the cloth in place. Note that the
example shown to the right is not a hemp prefold but a hemp
doubler.
Cotton
Prefolds with Covers
- Probably one of the cheapest option when it comes to diapering
your baby is using prefolds. They consist of a rectangular cotton
cloth that you fold to make an hour glass shape to fit in covers.
If you use pull up covers, you will have to use pins or something
to keep the cloth in place like a diaper fastener.
Cotton
Flatfolds with Covers
- Probably the cheapest option when it comes to diapering your
baby is using flatfolds cloth diapers. They consist of a rectangular
cotton cloth that you fold, several times, to make an hour glass
shape to fit in covers. If you use pull up covers, you will
have to use pins or something to keep the cloth in place.
