Elimination Communication

Elimination Communication (EC) is the communication between a baby and their parents, or whom may be taking care of them, about the baby's need to relieve themselves. If you are planning to have a baby or have one on the way and are considering EC then it is a good thing that you are looking into it now since the communication can begin as early as you like. If you already have a baby and would like to do EC there are some techniques you can use to introduce elimination communication to your

diapered child. It is a misconception infants are incapable of grasping "potty training" at such a young age. A healthy infant is completely aware of their bodily functions and can learn to respond to it from the beginning.

Before your baby in born make sure you have all of the items that your baby is going to need for EC.

Starting Elimination Communication

Once you find that you have the energy and time to dedicate to EC, you should begin to pay attention to your infant's body language and take note of the expressions and movements they make before relieving themselves. Some people place a prefold cloth diaper on their baby using a snappi or diaper pins, especially during night time and while traveling and

some let their baby be bare bottomed. Under certain circumstances some people will use chlorine free diapers when cloth is not an option. Watch the time from when they eat to the time that they relieve themselves. Then the next time that they eat, around the same time frame as before, offer them the potty. A lot of people have their baby in a sling so they will know when they have peed and are able to pay better attention to the times that it happens. Once you feel that you have an idea of when they will need to go pee or poop EC will be a breeze. Of course there will always be good days and bad days but you will get the hang of it.
